In the beginning of August, as I was keeping up-to-date on the social media feed on my Twitter account, I was privileged to come across one of Dave Lackie’s upcoming events that he happened to be hosting a giveaway for: The 2016 Fall Catwalk Beauty Trend Report Show at the Hudson’s Bay of Canada flagship store located on Yonge and Richmond in the financial district of Toronto.
For those of you who don’t know, Dave Lackie is the editor of Beauty, the Guide Magazine and the Beauty On-Air Expert for Cityline Canada, hosted by Tracy Moore, as well as beloved, social media influencer on Twitter with more than 115,000 followers, including myself.
I was lucky to see the giveaway when I did because the show was capped with limited seating, offering free tickets to only the first 100 people fast enough to sign-up. By the time I entered all my information to see if I potentially snagged a ticket, I was person #47 in the queue—and the tweet about the contest was only posted live for a mere 30 seconds!
And why do these events get so much fanfare and get filled up before a beautiful woman can blink her sharply-browed eyes?
Well, with most of Dave’s events, attendees are generously supplied with glorious (and I mean, glorious) gift bags filled with a number of high-quality beauty products. And we’re not talking about your average makeup concealer, here, or last season’s go-to eye palette either. When Dave shares beauty products with his followers, he spoils us with only the best and latest on-trend products in the industry.
But, before I share the kinds of beauty goodies I received from Dave, I’d like to share his report on the latest beauty trends for this year’s fall season:
Makeup artists like the renowned Francois Nars, worked on the Marc Jacobs show in New York City, which prompted one of this fall’s makeup trends known as:
The Gothic Kiss
If you like the dark side of things, you’re going to love the dark kiss of the goth lip. And when I say dark, I mean, black.
The Gothic Kiss is a goth, black lip, which Rodarte showcased by first applying lipliner all over the lip and then applying the dark lipstick over it to create an even deeper tone. To finish, powder was applied around the lips.
The makeup artist, Pat McGrath, used nude makeup and featured the ombre lip in the Anna Sui, Creatures of the Wind fashion show where darker hues surround the lip and get lighter as the colour recedes into the center of the lip, a trend that will certainly be prominent during the holidays.
Red, Red, Reds
And for those of us who can’t do without red in our lip wardrobe, Shiseido has created a line of 16 different red lipsticks that will flatter various skin tones. While European women consider the red lip a staple in their beauty repertoire, North Americans tend to gravitate towards the nude lip, but the red lip is sneaking its way back to the forefront of beauty trends this fall with even more tones to choose from.
If you’re not ready to get your red on, another favourite on the runway this season is the lipstick, Hot Tahiti by MAC, which provides the perfect plum-stain look.
By the time we reach London and Milan, another trend shows its pretty face—or rather, its eyes—on the runway.
The “Vamp Eyer” look is what you’d expect with its pomegranate, black cherry hues, and dark liner and plums that go rogue in attempting to hypnotize its wearers to the bloodstained look. It is as dark as it is seductive, all key ingredients to maximizing the vampyre look.
In consultation with Burberry for its show in London, Makeup Artist, Wendy Rowe, surprises fashion editors who usually expect nude makeup hues and streamlined, effortless beauty to hit the runway with hints of glitter.
The glitter sprinkled itself from the eyes of models using Burberry Shimmer Dust and glammed-out on nails with high-shine polish with metallic shades.
While Armani decided to perfectly coordinate its cosmetic casings with its clothes, Dior chose to empower the Parisian woman with the perfect poison girl lip like the Rouge Dior Matte in Visionary.
And if Armani was inspired to create cosmetic casings with prints from its fashion line, Dior went ahead and created 5-colour, eyeshadow palettes, which imprint the architectural lacing of the Eiffel Tower in its actual compacts!
There is 5 Couleurs in Parisian Sky (blue, beige, grey) and 5 Couleurs in Capital of Light (brown, pink).
